Although the original Mission was opened exclusively for men, facilities for women were added in the 1980s. Since many underprivileged women have young children, the Mission also provides for them by providing seven family rooms. At present we are able to accommodate approximately 60 women and children in the Women’s and Family Shelter, a refuge for the needy and sometimes abused and a stepping-stone for those seeking to move forward with their lives.
On any given day an estimated 5,000 people are homeless just in Riverside County. Tragically, nearly half of them are women and children! The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission’s Women and Family Shelter provides love, care, counseling and a place of safety for women and children in crisis.
